Interior Colour & Trends Incl Classic Colour Combinations
One of the most enjoyable aspects of painting a home or commercial space is selecting the right paint colours. This page contains some interior colours and classic combinations, as well as a few basic tips for choosing the right colour palette for your commercial, or home painting project. When selecting a colour palette, let's use a tool that most people have not used since their junior school:
Here Are Some Classic Colour Combinations:
COMPLIMENTARY: Select one colour and then look at the colour wheel. Sometimes opposite just works! An example of a complementary colour scheme is orange and blue.
ANALOGOUS: Pick the colour that you are attracted drawn to, then select the colours right next to it. A couple of shades in the same colour family can create harmony in a space. An example of an analogous colour scheme is green and yellow.
TRIADIC: This method is daring, but can be extremely effective! To achieve a contrasting colour palette, choose three colours that are evenly spaced out on the colour wheel. An example of a contrasting colour palette would be purple, orange, and yellow.
With each of these colour combinations, keep in mind that tones and shades add another level of complexity.
Below Tips For Selecting a Colour Palette
Here are a few bonus tips as you look for that magic colour scheme:
FIND AN INSPIRATION PIECE.
It may be your favourite flower, a rug, or a picture. Select the colours in that piece and either choose a close match, a complementary colour, or a different palette.
TAKE A HOME TOUR.
For harmony throughout your home, repeat one colour from one room to the next. Love your blue front door? A blue accent wall in your den and a blue picture frame in your kitchen will tie these colour stories together.
WHEN IN DOUBT GO NEUTRAL.
When it comes time to sell, selecting a neutral colour will help potential buyers focus on the room’s best features instead of a bold colour choice. Soft greens can be dull too and are considered to be less visually taxing than any other colour.
Other Considerations When Choosing Interior Paint
Accent walls continue to be a popular trend. They allow you to break up a traditional painting scheme, play with colours, and draw attention to a specific part of the room, (for instance a chimney breast). Perhaps you’ll put your favourite piece of art or a family portrait on this dominant wall? Some of our customers have also put a modern twist on ceilings, Tray Ceiling. by painting the top recess to match the wall colour of the room, rather than keeping it the plain white of the rest of the ceiling.
Ceilings overhead, a 1980s icon in-ceiling coverings is dying out. We have been removing & or plastering over Artex ceilings that may contain asbestos—Health Link which can be tremendously difficult to paint—all around the Dorset area. A sleek, modern ceiling can upgrade your place and make a drastic visual improvement.
After all, when it comes to painting, it is often one of the easiest items to change that can transform a space. Intserv Painting is here to help you achieve that perfect look!
